Wakeboarding thrills at the Munich Mash anniversary
Rivers Hedrick and Gavin Stuckey dominate the wakeboarding contest at Munich Mash 2024—and Gavin, along with Claudia Pagnini and Felix Georgii, also secures victory in the team event.
Enthusiastic guests, a lively atmosphere, and an action-packed program in every way—it had everything a perfect anniversary celebration needs. With a new record of 96,000 visitors, MASH celebrated a spectacular action sports party in Olympiapark for its tenth anniversary.
On Sunday, the young wakeboarders turned up the heat in the finals. Seventeen-year-old American Rivers Hedrick, who finished third the previous year, secured victory at the Olympic Lake with 166.99 points. Italian Claudia Pagnini made a grand comeback, finishing in second place with 164.99 points after missing last year due to injury. The youngest competitor, 16-year-old American Campbell Scarborough, came in third with 112.32 points. Julia Rick from Cologne was the only German in the finals and finished in fifth place.
The men’s final ended in a brotherly duel. This time, the younger of the American Stuckey brothers came out on top, narrowly surpassing his brother. Eighteen-year-old Gavin scored 178.32 points, while his 20-year-old brother Trent scored 177.32. In his first MASH appearance, Brit Rudy Talboys took third place with 144.33 points.
Already on Friday, Claudia Pagnini (ITA), Gavin Stuckey (USA), and Felix Georgii (GER) won the wakeboard team contest. Gavin had already claimed victory in the team contest last year with Rivers Hedrick (USA). With a very strong run by Claudia and Felix as the creative mastermind, Team Green managed to defeat Team Red, which included Katinka Buiting (NLD), Joe Battleday (GBR), and Rudy Talboys (GBR).
It’s impressive what went down once again in the heart of the Olympiapark. It was so good that wakeboarding remains one of the key cornerstones of the Munich Mash. At hardly any other event does our sport receive as much attention as when things heat up in the Bavarian capital. Hopefully, this will continue for the next decade!
A small side note: many riders and spectators are hoping for the return of a big air wakeboard event—perhaps it will happen again in the future. Nowhere else are the conditions as ideal as in the lake at Olympiapark.
